Correcting your posture

It is easy to start relaxing, and even getting a bit more comfortable each time you play golf. Why is it that it seems that just as your body is feeling a bit better, your game seems to be going downhill? There is an essential component to the game of golf that is one of the easiest to over-look: Correct Posture.

If you are relaxing on the course, feeling a bit more at ease about the game, even simply enjoying yourself more – you may find that your body is doing the same thing. Relaxing, easing in a bit, enjoying itself.

Unfortunately, the perfect golf posture is actually a bit unnatural. Therefore it feels unnatural. And this is just what you want. Exactly what you want to know that you are maintaining your posture to the best of your ability.

Your golf posture should be powerful. It should be a choice. If this is the case, your game will feel the same way. Like wise if you relax into a more comfortable posture, you will end up losing quite a bit of the important power and balance that you need for your swing.

Check yourself in the mirror. Your weight should be balanced on the balls of your feet. You will feel a tiny bit of pressure both on the toes and heels, but the bulk of the weight is to be left for the balls of your feet to handle. Bend your knees slightly. Again, this may feel a bit unnatural as you feel the tiniest pull on your knees. Do not worry. This is correct. Now, lift your backside. Go ahead, and check it out. With your backside lifted slightly, you are now more and more in control of your balance. Next, check that your spine is straight, and bend slightly at the hips so that your head is just over the ball. If you feel like you’re falling forward, you’ve gone too far; likewise, if you feel too much weight on your heels, you’ve not gone far enough. Dangle your arms at your side.

If you pay attention to the above posture, you’ll notice that it is simply not a natural place. That is because it is a powerful place. Often times we find that some of the most powerful positions we take in life are highly uncomfortable. While you should not be in pain, you should sense that you have to concentrate to maintain this posture. When you find yourself in a comfortable state, you may find that you are not swinging as well, or hitting the ball as far.

Get your posture corrected each time you head out to the golf course. Not only will your game improve, your thoughts about yourself right along with it. Concentrating on your posture, will keep you concentrated on your game. Stay Postured: Stay powerful.
